An analytics engineer is a crucial link between data engineers and data analysts/scientists, responsible for collaborating with data scientists, platform data engineers, data analysts, and business to collect business requirements, determine data needed, and formulate business requirements into analytical objectives. They design data models using dimensional data modelling principles, build the analytical warehouse, provide guidance and mentorship, ensure data pipelines are automated and scalable, and maintain high standards and best practices. They also ensure the data catalogue, business glossary, and other relevant documentation are regularly updated to improve self-service capabilities and trust in data and reporting.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about data analytics, proficient in designing and implementing complex analytical solutions, an expert in dimensional data modeling and database management, and have extensive experience using ETL/ELT tools and techniques. They should be intellectually curious, have strong leadership experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be a team player. They can handle uncertain and ambiguous scenarios and stay updated on developments and emerging trends in data.
