Description

The Supply Chain Management Internship offers a comprehensive introduction to the logistical operations that underpin DIRCO’s international and domestic activities. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about procurement processes, inventory management, and the strategic sourcing of goods and services required to support the department’s functions. This role is ideal for individuals who want to deepen their understanding of supply chain dynamics in a governmental setting, where international diplomacy and logistical efficiency are closely connected. Interns will gain insights into how supply chain operations are vital to supporting South Africa’s foreign policy objectives, ensuring that resources are available when needed to facilitate international cooperation.

Responsibilities

  • Interns will assist in managing procurement processes, which include drafting requests for proposals, vetting suppliers, and ensuring that goods and services are procured in accordance with government regulations
  • They will also track deliveries, manage inventory levels, and ensure that supply chain operations meet the department’s needs
  • Furthermore, interns will work on improving cost efficiencies by analyzing procurement trends and identifying opportunities for savings
  • They will support compliance efforts, ensuring that all transactions meet South Africa's legal and regulatory standards
  • The role also includes collaborating with various departments to ensure that logistical needs are met during international conferences and events

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a closely related field
  • They should demonstrate strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
