Description

The learner will be responsible for processing and handling claims within the delegated authority by ensuring validity, assessing liability, and negotiating settlement, while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining cost containment. Claims must be managed within the governed framework to ensure compliance with short-term insurance regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform administration functions, including registration of new claims and loading/authorizing payments
• Examine and validate new claims and related documentation
• Adjust claims to ensure they align with Sasria policy cover
• Ensure appropriate supporting documents for the quantum are received and calculations are accurate
• Maintain document diary on the IMS system
• Update reserves in line with the reserving policy and follow up on outstanding proof of quantum
• Use sound judgment and decision-making skills to analyze claims exposure, determine the appropriate action, and settle claims within delegated authority
• Approve claims after verification of documents and validation under the policy cover
• Escalate complex and contentious claims to the Supervisor
• Work with external resources to handle claims within Sasria’s procedures and philosophy
• Regularly update notes on the system to reflect the latest claim status
• Notify the underwriting department of any coverage gaps, omitted documents, or losses/gains on premiums
• Handle all customer queries promptly and in line with policy
• Negotiate claim settlements
• Regularly liaise with agent companies and brokers regarding claim progress
• Update all relevant stakeholders on the status of the claim

Qualifications

• Relevant National Diploma in Finance and/or Accounting
• Matric
