The Centre for Text Technologies (CTexT) at NWU Potchefstroom is seeking a Junior Programmer to fulfill software development requirements and assist senior developers with ongoing projects related to human language technology. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing computer software, including databases, services, and user interfaces. The position also involves maintenance of existing software, integrating data into systems, and providing technical assistance. The ideal candidate should have a tertiary qualification in Language Technology, Computational Linguistics, Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Development, or another relevant field. The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of programming experience in at least one of the following languages: PERL, Python, R, C, C, C#, Java. Additional advantages include 1 year experience in text processing, corpora creation, and lexical database development. Functional and technical competencies include computer literacy, experience with different operating systems, fluency in English and Afrikaans, mastery of new software, scientific writing style, time-management skills, and creative problem-solving abilities. The candidate should be able to work within a team, prioritize tasks, and complete tasks in line with CTexT's goals.
