IBM Research Africa offers a unique internship to work on cutting-edge technology solutions in areas such as generative AI, quantum machine learning, and cloud workflows. The intern will contribute to foundation models, agentic workflows, and quantum-ML algorithms while participating in research projects, internal and open-source code repositories, and producing outputs like research papers and patents. The role provides exposure to scalable software systems, collaboration with leading scientists, and real-world impact through innovative technology.

Responsibilities

• Develop and contribute to research projects in AI, quantum computing, and cloud-based workflows
• Collaborate with research scientists and engineers on algorithm and model development
• Contribute to internal and open-source code repositories
• Participate in research meetings, discussions, and the development of commercial outputs
• Support preparation of research papers, patents, and technical documentation

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an MSc or PhD program in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Quantum Computing, or related fields
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and optionally Java, C/C++
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and optimization techniques
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with good communication and collaboration abilities
• Preferred: Experience in research publications, quantum computing, or MLOps
