Description

The Actuarial Graduate Trainee programme at Munich Reinsurance Africa Branch offers recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in actuarial and risk management while working in Johannesburg on a hybrid basis. This full‑time role provides exposure to technical training, day‑to‑day business tasks, and cross‑divisional projects. Graduates will engage in data transformation, risk assessment, modelling, pricing, and reporting, while developing both technical and soft skills. The programme is designed to build actuarial expertise, support exam preparation, and foster professional growth in a diverse and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in soft skills and technical training
  • Conduct day‑to‑day business unit specific tasks
  • Participate in team specific tasks and deliverables
  • Participate in cross‑divisional project teams
  • Participate in team and business projects
  • Transform client data into a usable format for analysis
  • Calculate group risk quotes for all benefits using the tools provided
  • Understand the modelling and pricing of reinsurance and insurance products
  • Identify risk, assess these and document accordingly
  • Check data and create movement analysis
  • Review, report and calculate reserves
  • Use and run models
  • Review, compile and provide content to actuarial and risk reports

Qualifications

  • Recent Actuarial Science Graduate with Undergraduate or Honours degree
  • Good coding and programming skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • Working knowledge of statistical and mathematical methods and analysis
