The IS Audit Trainee role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in information systems auditing, focusing on identifying and testing key IT controls that impact financial reporting. Trainees will develop innovative audit solutions tailored to specific IT risks faced by businesses, while building a strong foundation in IT governance, risk management, and audit frameworks. The position involves working closely with clients and audit teams, applying computer-assisted audit techniques, and documenting findings in line with BDO’s audit and risk management processes. This role is designed to provide exposure to technical, analytical, and client-facing responsibilities, preparing trainees for a career in IT auditing and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct general information technology controls testing
• Perform application controls testing
• Analyse information systems data to evaluate accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of transactions
• Develop a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses, identifying risks and controls
• Provide technical support to financial audit teams when computer-assisted audit techniques are required
• Learn and apply data analysis using tools such as IDEA
• Gain knowledge of IT risk management, governance concepts, and best practice frameworks
• Prepare audit plans and gather evidence through interviews and validation
• Engage with clients during audits and participate in meetings
• Document work and findings in accordance with BDO audit and risk management processes
• Communicate potential audit delays to management and escalate issues when necessary
• Validate IT audit findings before drafting audit reports
• Provide feedback to the IT management team when required
• Adhere to the firm’s Employment Equity Policy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, informatics, internal auditing, or equivalent
• Honours degree in the above fields is advantageous
• Knowledge of COBIT, ITIL, ISO27001-2, and other IT governance models is beneficial
• Desire to pursue or currently studying towards a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) qualification
