The Shoprite Bursary aims to attract and fund talented Chartered Accounting students to become part of the Company’s Finance team after the completion of their studies. The Shoprite SAICA Trainee Accountant Programme provides trainees with exposure to the commerce industry across the business, academic support and is mentored by our management team to ensure that we develop well-rounded CAs.

Responsibilities

• Gain exposure to various finance and accounting functions within the business
• Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
• Participate in audit and compliance-related activities
• Develop an understanding of SAICA regulations and accounting principles
• Work closely with mentors and senior finance professionals to acquire practical skills
• Rotate across different finance departments to ensure a well-rounded training experience
• Support the finance team in analyzing and interpreting financial data
• Assist in reconciling financial records and ensuring accuracy
• Prepare financial statements and reports in line with SAICA and IFRS standards
• Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations
• Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies in financial data
• Develop cost analysis reports to support financial decision-making
• Help improve internal financial processes and implement best practices
• Prepare presentations and reports for senior management and external stakeholders
• Participate in financial planning and risk management initiatives
• Engage in ongoing professional development and training to enhance technical skills
• Work on special financial projects as assigned by the finance team
• Prepare for the SAICA APC exam by gaining relevant work experience

Qualifications

• BCom Accounting, BAcc (CA stream) degree
• 65%+ Aggregate
• 2nd, 3rd and 4th academic year/ PGDA / CTA
• SA citizen
• 27 years old and younger
